Before you take the big art stroll, check out the ArtWalk Block Party every Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Famous for its New Year’s Eve Block parties, the bars and restaurants on Craftsman’s Court are hosting pre-ArtWalk discounts for art lovers.
While ArtWalks occur every Thursday, 7-9 p.m., year-round, the fall brings some special events for the culturally hungry. With more than 100 galleries in the downtown area, the galleries offer contemporary, impressionistic, Russian, Western, sculptures, and a variety of other mixed-media works. Clustered along two primary streets, Marshall Way and Main St., Scottsdale is on the map as one of the art destinations of the U.S.
Oct. 16–Western ArtWalk:
The 19th Annual Western ArtWalk is the celebration of the Cowboy Artists of America riding into town. These internationally acclaimed artists have sold millions-worth of paintings and sculptures depicting the modern and historical West. Many of the cherished CAA members will be showing work at select galleries and talking to fans from 7-9 p.m. Sponsored by the SGA, Arizona Collector’s Guide and True West Magazine, attendees can enjoy live Western-themed music, free restaurant samplings and prize gifts.
This is a new Saturday afternoon ArtWalk celebrating the Via Colori Street Painting Festival. The festival is a celebration of the creative process, bringing local artists and businesses together to raise money for charity. From noon-4 p.m., the galleries, shops and restaurants will have doors wide open to welcome onlookers of the sidewalk artists working throughout the arts district.
of Art ArtWalk:
On Thursday night, from 7-9 p.m., local restaurants offer sumptuous samples to strollers along the ArtWalk route. In addition to galleries, there will be several downtown VIP dining opportunities to benefit charities. Hosted by the Scottsdale Gallery Association and Scottsdale Convention & Visitors’ Bureau in conjunction with Savor Scottsdale’s first annual Eats3 festival (Oct. 23-35).

A quick jaunt down Marshall Way to Second St., and one can find the nationally renowned Scottsdale Artists’ School bordered by the city’s rose garden at 3720 N. Marshall Way. On Oct. 16, the school hosts its annual The Best and the Brightest Juried Fine Art Show and Sale. Featuring paintings, drawings and sculpture from professional as well as undiscovered artists, the annual juried show is considered a not-to-miss by collectors and enthusiasts. Celebrating its 24th year, the show offers more than 100 original artworks, with prices ranging from $200-$5,000. Art lovers can meet the artists and be the first to view the works on Oct. 16, from 5-7 p.m., for the artists’ reception.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, Malee’s Thai on Main continues to offer Thai food in an artistic setting. Founded in August 1987, owner Deirdre Pain set up house in the 1921 building at 7131 E. Main St., which formerly served as a tea house, a French bistro, and Italian restaurant.
